중앙대학교 건축공학과 졸업, 미국 버클리 캘리포니아 대학 (University of California at Berkeley)에서 석사학위를 받고, 미국 텍사스 오스틴 대학(University of Texas at Austin)에서 건설자동화 관련 주제로 박사학위를 받았으며, 미국 건설산업연구원(Construction Industry Institute: CII) 내의 혁신전략위원회(Breakthrough Strategy Committee)에서 건설 산업에 첨단산업기술의 도입 및 이를 적용하기 위한 방안에 관한 연구를 수행하였다.
현재 미국토목학회(ASCE)논문집, AIC(Automation in Construction), CACAIE(Computer Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering) 등의 국제학술지 논문심사위원으로 활동하고 있다.
